  12.        in the quality assurance of immunophenotyping using flow cytometry.
  13.        These activities include publication of guidelines for
  14.        immunophenotyping, particularly in human immunodeficiency virus
  15.        infection, performance evaluation and proficiency testing programs, and
  16.        training and continuing education programs. Through questionnaires and
  17.        results from performance evaluation programs, variability in test
  18.        results has been decreasing the last few years, and more laboratories
  19.        are beginning to use the same specimen processing and data analysis
  20.        procedures.
